What this tool does

Landscape Lighting Calculator is a browser-based electrical simulation tool for low-voltage landscape lighting systems. You place fixtures and wires on a canvas and the tool runs a physics simulation to compute voltages and currents. Optionally, you may upload a blueprint image as a canvas background and use the Fixture Finder feature (an opt-in AI tool) to detect fixture locations from the image.

Blueprint images are not used for simulation. The simulation uses only your electrical network: node positions, wire connections, fixture wattage, and transformer settings. The blueprint is used solely as a visual canvas background and, if you opt in, for Fixture Finder processing.

What we collect

• Blueprint images (only when you use Fixture Finder, which is opt-in). The image is transmitted to our server and held in RAM for fixture detection. It is never written to persistent storage and is purged from RAM immediately after processing completes. If you use the tool without Fixture Finder, no blueprint data is ever sent to us.
• A project key - a short hash derived from your blueprint image combined with a random suffix. This is used to correlate requests within a single session. It contains no personally identifiable information.
• Aggregate simulation statistics - recorded each time a simulation runs. These are anonymous counts and totals:
  • Number of fixtures (total and connected)
  • Number of wires and transformers
  • Total wire length (meters)
  • Total fixture VA and transformer rated wattage
  • Fault and warning counts
  • Whether a calibration ruler was set
  • Simulation duration (milliseconds)
  Not collected in statistics: fixture names, labels, catalog IDs, per-node voltages or currents, or any design content beyond the aggregate numbers above.
• Anonymized network topology snapshots - once per unique design, we may retain a stripped representation of your electrical network for algorithm development purposes. This snapshot contains:
  • Fixture types and electrical ratings (e.g. "7W path light") - not names or labels you assigned
  • Wire connections, gauges, and lengths
  • Node positions and ruler calibration (scale)
  Removed before storage: all labels, any names you gave to fixtures or the project, blueprint images, and your project key. The stored snapshot cannot identify you, your client, or the installation site.
• Fixture Finder usage - when Fixture Finder runs, we record the number of candidate fixtures detected and processing duration. No image data is retained.
• A daily visitor signal - a non-reversible hash derived from your IP address and the current UTC date (SHA-256 of IP + date). This resets every day and cannot be used to identify or track you across days or sessions. It is used only to produce an approximate unique-visitor count. The raw IP address is used only to compute this hash and is not written to disk or retained in any log.

IP addresses - receipt and non-retention

Your IP address is received by our server with every request, as is unavoidable for any web communication. It is used solely to enforce rate limits (in memory) and to compute the daily visitor hash described above. It is not written to any log file, database, or persistent storage. Only the one-way hash is stored, and only for 30 days.

Data practices

• No account registration, no names, no email addresses.
• No cookies, no tracking pixels, no third-party analytics.
• No persistent storage of your blueprint images on our servers (except when you explicitly use the Share feature - see below).
• Design files are not stored, except for the anonymized topology snapshot described above (no names, no images, no project key).
• We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties for commercial purposes.

Plan sharing

If you use the Share feature, your plan file (including the embedded blueprint image) is encrypted in your browser before upload. The server stores only the encrypted ciphertext - it cannot read your plan. Files are automatically and permanently deleted after 96 hours. The share link (which contains the decryption key in the URL fragment) is the only access control - anyone with the link can open the plan. Do not share plans containing sensitive information (addresses, security layouts, etc.) using this feature.

Data retention summary

Your rights (GDPR / CCPA / CPRA)

Because we do not store any data that is reasonably linkable to an identified individual, there is in practice no personal data held about you that could be accessed, corrected, or deleted. If you believe otherwise, or wish to make a data subject request, contact us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. California residents may direct any CCPA/CPRA inquiries to the contact address below.

Infrastructure and jurisdiction

The server is hosted on a Contabo VPS located in Seattle, Washington, United States. Data is therefore processed and stored in the United States. Requests are proxied through Cloudflare (headquartered in San Francisco, CA) for DDoS protection and TLS termination. Cloudflare receives your IP address as part of this transit; their privacy policy governs that layer. No other third parties receive your data.
